Qualitative Review Research: My Favourite film

Film: Avengers: Age Of Ultron

Professional Reviews

Review one:  Empire Magazine
The overall view of this review is that Avengers Age of Ultron is a good film on its own and also a good squeal to all of the other marvel films before it. The writer of the review stars off to talk about the plot of the film. He then talks about each of the different charters and how they have changed  since the last film and how they have come together to become a complete team.

He then goes on to say that the films biggest burden is actually the films that are planned for the future, and how that are adding to the already dense plot that could be hard for people to understand.

But as i said the overall review says that the film was good, with good plot and character development.

Review Two:  Telegraph
This review follows the same pattern as the other review. It tells us about he main lot of he story first and what happens. It then goes on the make the point about what the character do. But it does not really go into much detail about any of it. But it continues the feeling that this is a good quality film and is good for everyone to watch.

Review Three:  Roger Ebert

This review Starts off like the others by talking about the plot of the film to start off with. It then goes on to talk about how some other critics say that it was going to be a fail like some other comic films. It then goes on to talk about the CGI that was used in the film.

Review Four: Time

This review starts off by talking about the writer of the review's favorite avenger. They then goes on to talk about the new characters in the film. They then talk about the story of the film, and abot  Ultron, and how Whedon had to make less powerful in the film or Ultron would of been too powerful.

This is unlike the others, they do not start off with the main story line.

Review Five: The Spectator
This review is different to the others, it believes the film is not very good. This can be because the writer is no inside the target audience for the film, but also that they have not watched the other films before so therefore did not know any of the backstory do not understand some of the film and could therefore not enjoy the film.

Audience Reviews

Review 1: YouTube - Jeremy Jahns

This review starts off to talk about the film, an some of the key scenes in the film, and said briefly what he thought on them. He then goes on to talk about Ultron, and how he though he was he was a great character in the film, and how when Ultron comes in to play, it becomes a much deeper movie and stays that way for the rest of the film. He then mentions his fears about how they were introducing a three new characters in one film, but he feels that they portrayed the characters well. He continues to say that he likes how the film lets you enjoy it and connect with it easily.

Review 2: YouTube - Emergency Awesome

He starts off by talking abut how the director wanted the film to be more about Hulk and Hawkeye, and how he came up with the idea for the film. He also thinks Ultron is the "funnest, scariest robot" in film. And then he talks about the vision and how the person playing vision was really well. He does speak about other critics and how they fell like they are trying to set up the next phase of marvel in the film. He feels it flows better than some of the others. He does feel that the character 'black widow' did not have enough of her own story.

Review 3: IMDB audience review -  user: siderite

This reviewer starts off by asking the question of 'is it worth watching?'. an goes on to talk about how he feels it is. He then talks about the main villain, scarlet witch and quick silver. He then goes on to talk about the story of the characters, and their back story. They say about their favorite and what they love about them. But he then goes on to talk about some of the stuff that he felt was wrong with the film.

Review 4: Metacritic audience review

This review starts off by saying that one downside is the length of the film, and how it can feel a bit too long. They then go on to say how well it builds on the original avengers film the other marvel films.  But also how it differs from them and changes things to help with the film.. He then goes on to talk about some of the story and who it revolves around .

Review 5: Amazon : User - BuckWizard

This review starts off talking about how age of Ultron is a great follow up film but is also a great stand alone superhero/action film. They then continue to talk about the film and how they feel the characters have changed and formed more into a team. He continues to talk about some of the good points on the film.
He then talks about some of the bad points he had about the film, and he said that the editing in the first half of the film was not as good as the second half. How the cuts seemed slightly off.

Analysis

My analysis of these reviews make me feel like the film was successful. I feel this because most of the reviews have a good, positive response to the film. The reviews also show that the film hit its target audience. People seem to like how the character development is in the film and how they have been built on from the last film. Also the fact that most people seem to think that the four new characters that have been introduced in this film (Ultron, Vision, Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch) where portrayed well. A lot of people also think that the over all CGI in the film, was good and helped with the film.

The bad things that people have to say is that they feel that the film was boring, repetitive and was over all bad. The writer from 'the Spectator' had this point of view. they had found the plot confusing, and this led her to not enjoy it at all. This could be because they were outside the target audience, because they have not watched the other films or could just be she did not enjoy it.

China £105,470,524.28

Why this film may have been successful

This film may have been successful during the year 2015 because this film is part of a series which began in 2008. The audience who have watched the other films in this series may have liked it and probably wanted to carry on watching this series. Anyone who is interested in the Marvel comics may also want to watch the film.

This film was successful because the amount of money made was a large amount. The budget for this film was £172,586,449.66 ($250,000,000). The film made £991,656,310.21 globally which means if you take away how much it cost to make, the profit would be £819,069,860.55.

The country that made the most amount of money was the USA and the country that made the least amount of money was Portugal. The reason the USA may have made more money is because the population is higher than Portugal. This means that the USA will need more cinema screens than Portugal because of the higher population. This could also be true for China because it has a higher population than the other countries.

Another reason why the USA made more money than Portugal is because more people speak English in the USA than Portugal. In Portugal they will have to offer either dubbed movie or a subtitled movie and quite a lot of people may not like watching subtitled movies because it distracts them from watching the movie. This is the same with South Korea and Spain as their first language is not English.

It is also true that most of the cast are top american actors so therefore it will bring in a large amount of people to watch the film. This would not just bring in an American audience because these actors would be known worldwide. Most films are made by Hollywood producers so Hollywood films are more prominent than films made in other countries.
